{"id":226,"date":"2012-10-13T23:26:51","date_gmt":"2012-10-14T06:26:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kaytat.com\/?p=226"},"modified":"2012-10-28T00:53:24","modified_gmt":"2012-10-28T07:53:24","slug":"raspbmc-rc5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kaytat.com\/blog\/?p=226","title":{"rendered":"Raspbmc &#8211; RC5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RC5 is out so I tried it, hoping that with the kernel headers, the addition of the module would be easier.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, I&#8217;m not sure what they mean by &#8220;kernel headers available&#8221; but I was unable to see any headers when I installed the new version.<\/p>\n<p>To get the remote working again, I had redo the same steps as before.\u00a0 Luckily my Ubuntu box had all the stuff left over from before so it was really quick.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, the only additional change was just before running the make menuconfig command, I made sure I had the proper kernel config.<\/p>\n<p>So on my Ubuntu box, assuming the &#8220;chroot&#8221; had already been run:<\/p>\n<pre>\r\ncd \/\r\nscp pi@192.168.3.14:\/proc\/config.gz .\r\ncd \/raspberrypi-linux-*\r\nzcat ..\/config.gz &gt; .config\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>The kernel configuration is stored in config.gz, but it&#8217;s compressed.  zcat uncompresses it.<\/p>\n<p>Just need to change the IP address for your rpi.<\/p>\n<p>Also, I found that the remote control would sometimes not respond and looking at the logs, I found that this fix wasn&#8217;t working.  Adding a delay in rc.local seems to help:<\/p>\n<pre>\r\n# Sleep for a little bit ... seems to help\r\n\/usr\/bin\/logger rc.local sleeping for 5 seconds \r\n\/bin\/sleep 5\r\n\/usr\/bin\/logger rc.local sleeping done\r\n\r\n# module magic stuff\r\n\/sbin\/rmmod usbhid || true\r\n\/sbin\/modprobe hid-aureal || true\r\n\/sbin\/modprobe usbhid || true\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>The logger should put messages in \/var\/log\/syslog on the rpi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RC5 is out so I tried it, hoping that with the kernel headers, the addition of the module would be easier.
